Artist statement
Emily Connor’s practice is rooted in the embodied act of ‘Trace-making’—a sustained enquiry into how material, gesture, and sensation converge to register presence. Drawing becomes a durational event, where marks emerge not as representations but as remnants of movement, memory, and affect. She selects materials for their tactile resistance and responsiveness, allowing them to shape the emotional and physical register of each trace. This work reflects an ongoing exploration of how the act of making becomes a site of encounter between the internal and external, the ephemeral and the enduring.
